The following statement was created in partnership with nonprofit leaders in Minnesota and represents our shared desire for healing, understanding, justice, and change.
Nonprofit leaders representing many of Minnesota’s 501c3 organizations are mourning the tragic, senseless murder of George Floyd. Our thoughts are with Mr. Floyd’s family, and the broader community.
His life mattered. We are listening. We are committed to action.
We recognize that George Floyd’s murder is not an isolated incident but is a symptom of a system that cultivates violence and injustice. Our organizations often serve people who experience injustice, economic disparities, and discrimination in their daily lives. We are dedicated to inclusion, diversity, and equity as central tenets in our service to Minnesota.
Now is also the time to take stronger actions to counter these systemic forces within our organizations’ work and in the community. We are committed to actively working to reform and change systems that have maintained the status quo of inequity and injustice.
Nonprofits have different missions but our work to help enrich peoples’ lives is the same.
We believe all people are worthy of dignity, respect, hope, and opportunity. Our doors are always open to offer support, empathy, encourage listening, and lead discourse that will bring about change. We invite healing, learning, and perseverance to move forward as one Minnesota.
